The National Monument - Kuala Lumpar Malaysia
Located in the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, the National Monument consits of a great bronze sculpture designed by Felix de Weldon, creator of the framed Iwo Jima memorial in Washington U.S.A. It was constructed in 1966 to commemorate the Nation's heroes and all members of the various security forces and civilians who fought in the cause of Peace and Freedom, thereby securing the democratic success that the vibrant country of Malaysia enjoys today.
Standing 15.54 metres high and surrounded by a moat of clear water, with fountains and ornamental pewter water lilies, it is a must when visiting the country
History of the NMBVAA in Queensland
In 1994/1995 the concept started when a group of people attended a re-union in Malaysia. The follow on discussions and the exchanging of ideas by those present resulted in the decision to form this association to get former members who served in the region to become members, honour those who gave their lives, and to give assistance and advice to all people who wished to join. The response to this was very strong and it was agreed the organization would be called the National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association and was formed initially in the U.K., and followed by the formation of an independent National Australian Association.
In 2009 following concern over the validity of incorporation of States as part of a national body State branches have been formed throughout the country and incorporated under their respective State legislation. These included Queensland, NSW, Tasmania and South Australia Each State has its own President and Committee responsible for their incorporated state. This is knowm as NMBVAA Incorporated States and is not related to NMBVAA incorporated in the A.C.T.
